In Brussels for the 2024-2025 European Defence Challenge
On 9 May 2024, the Belgian Royal Military Academy (RMA) will host the awards ceremony for the fifth edition of the European Defence Challenge (EDC), which was originally established under the Alliance for strategic skills addressing emerging technologies in defence (ASSETs+) project to foster strategic skills in emerging defence technologies. As a former member of the project consortium, which ran from 2020 to 2023, Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini remains a committed supporter of the European Defence Challenge.
The event will take place in Brussels (Avenue de la Renaissance, 30), from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM (CET).
Now in its fifth edition, the European Defence Challenge is an open competition designed to attract young talent to the defence industry and encourage them to pursue careers in defence-related technologies. As part of the challenge, European students are invited to think about a current problem in the field of defence and propose a solution.
In the 2024-2025 edition, Towards a Safer Tomorrow: Multidisciplinary Approaches to Landmine Clearance and Security Enhancement, participants have tackled pressing issues related to landmine clearance and security enhancement.
During the event, the finalists will present their innovative proposals, and the winning team of this edition will be announced.
Dirk Peters from the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) of the European Commission will participate as kenynote speaker.
Līga Baltiņa, Head of FGB's Labour Market and Skills research Unit and former member of the coordination team of the ASSETs+ project, will also be among the events' speakers, and will deliver the closing remarks alongside Geert De Cubber (RMA).
Participation in the event is free, upon previous online registration.
